[Mere moments have passed since the end of the last promo. We’re now inside of a church. Inside…well, churches are churches, for the most part. They all tend to look more or less the same. A large altar dominating the center of the room, usually centrally located. Row upon row of wooden pews. A small clutch of wooden booths off to the side, for the hearing of confession. A cluster of candles located towards the front of the room. It’s towards those candles that Maniac now heads. He picks up a small taper, lights it, then uses it to light one of the candles. Once that’s done, he blows it out and places it back on the table, heading deeper inside towards the pews. The one really distinguishing ark about this particular church is that it all looks relatively new. There is none of the sense of history or opulence or grandness that you’d get at somewhere like, say, St. Patrick’s.]
[Maniac walks over to one of the rows of pews and sits down inside gingerly. He bows his head for a moment, communing silently with…well, whatever he may be communing with. He then raises his head, performs the Stations of the Cross, and begins to speak.]
MANIAC: Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
I apologize, Father, for not making more of an effort to seek out your guidance lately. My life has been rather…eventful…as of late. I want to thank you for all that you have seen fit to bless me with.
I now find myself at a crossroads in my life and I’m not entirely sure which way to turn. I humbly ask for your help in helping to continue down the path you have set for me and in helping me to come to a greater understanding of the world and my place in it. I know that we are not capable of understanding the full wisdom of your great plan nor do I ask to do so. I simply ask that you help me in continuing on the path I was meant to travel.
Heavenly Father, I ask that you watch over and protect Evan Cartwright, Terry Brandon, and all those closest to them. They are good people who deserve your love.
Heavenly Father, please watch over and protect my wife. She is my life and my world. Without her, I am nothing.
And finally, Lord…grant me the strength to change that which I can, the serenity to accept that which I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.
[Despite himself, Maniac chuckles.]
And grant me forgiveness, Lord, for speaking to you in such fatuous homilies.
Amen.
[Scene fades to black.]
