The Day of Reckoning is finally here!
Finally, after weeks and weeks of waiting, after days and days of preparations, my Cataclysm can finally prove his worth in the REBEL arena! We're on our way now to Raleigh. I just can't wait! That's more than I can say for Cataclysm, though, the man doesn't even seem to care. I thought he'd be a little more enthusiastic than this. I'm sure I told him who his opponent was...
His opponent is Brian Bruno, quite the popular NAPW star. I looked him up on the REBEL homepage to find some information on him, and wow! Quite the athelete! Brilliant competition for Cataclysm! But imagine if
[ Mortimer pauses for a moment from his writing to notice that he spelled "athlete" wrong. He rolls his tired eyes as he turns his HB2 pencil over to the eraser end and quickly scribbles the replacement "athilete" to continue. ]
he wins. Then he'd go on for a shot at the REBEL world title! And all this oaf can do is sit here and sleep. Unbelievable. I'll bet Bruno is getting good and prepared.
At any rate, he'll have to be prepared sometime. He has to go on to win that title or I'm finished!
[ Mortimer finishes with a neatly handwritten signature, and closes the cover to his hardcover brown leather journal. He neatly tucks the book into his bag at his feet, simultaneously pulling out his Apple laptop with his free hand.
Mortimer is wearing his light brown suit today. An expensive looking pair of polarized sunglasses hangs from his white tank top. His jacket is hung over the back of his airplane seat. Perhaps the trip was just to hot for him? Cataclysm is leaning silently against the window, his face hidden in shadow. There's an empty bottle of Dasani water sitting on his lap.
Mortimer opens the laptop and begins loudly click-clacking away at it. Dozens of sleeping people around him aggrivatedly awake, throwing empty bottles in his direction, telling him to keep quiet. Cataclysm seems to be the only one left asleep now, at least until he gets an empty beer cup to the head, thanks to Mortimer. Mortimer notices this and smiles in Cataclysm's direction, closing the laptop to many sighs of relief. ]
Alexandr Mortimer: Ahh, you're awake, my friend. Couldn't sleep, no? You don't have to answer, I know you're very excited about your match against Brian Bruno next week.
[ Cataclysm seems quite oblivious as to what Mortimer is talking about. We can't see his face to tell for sure, but his actions speak much louder than words. ]
Alexandr Mortimer: Didn't I tell you?
[ He opens the laptop again to quite a few sighs of grief and some loud angry groans. Mortimer doesn't seem to notice as he brings up the REBEL homepage in three clicks of the keyboard. With another click he brings up the roster page, and in two more he has Bruno's information on the screen. ]
Alexandr Mortimer: See? You wanted some competition, eh? Well, this man right here is just the competitor!
[ Cataclysm doesn't spend much time looking at the screen. ]
Cataclysm: When?
[ Mortimer brings up the REBEL schedule page. ]
Alexandr Mortimer: April Third. Tuesday next week. That means we only have the weekend to prepare for the contest.
[ Cataclysm seems to be ignoring Mortimer. Only the "April 3rd' comment seemed to interest him at all. Right now he's confusedly observing his empty bottle of Dasani. He looks at Mortimer, who quickly hands him a new bottle. Where he got it in that little time only God could know. Cataclysm takes the bottle, quickly opens it, and takes a rather big gulp. ]
Alexandr Mortimer: Hot in here, no?
[ Mortimer looks very guilty right now, pulling on his collar and trying very hard not to look in Cataclysm's general direction. Cataclysm just shakes his head and opens the blind to his window, gazing out at the sunrise over the Atlantic. ]
Alexandr Mortimer: So, do you have any words for your opponent, or are you just going to use that "Blue Ruin" bit?
[ Cataclysm is speechless, and motionless. Mortimer closes the blind so the man can sleep, closes his laptop, and pulls out his Motorola Crazr cell phone. He hits the Speed Dial button and holds the phone up to his ear. ]
Alexandr Mortimer: Hello? Is this Janice? Yes, I'd like to speak with Mr.... Oh, he's not in? Okay then, thank you.
[ He puts the phone away, and looks at Cataclysm for a moment. He shakes his head. ]
Alexandr Mortimer: Lazy. Well... I hope you pull through for me, my friend... For both our sakes.
And Brian Bruno... Well, I know Cataclysm isn't going to say it. Good luck, Brian, this coming Tuesday is going to be a very funfilled one. I can't wait to see what my Cataclysm can do in the ring with a superstar of your caliber, Brian. Cataclysm loves a challenge, and he's getting one.
But don't take my praise lightly. Cataclysm will be bringing you his all. His kicks are like... well, buzz saws for lack of a better comparison. I suggest you wear headgear, my friend, because the Blue Ruin will... [sigh] leave you in ruin, if you'll pardon the pun.
We'll see you on Tuesday, Bruno. Have a good weekend!
[ Mortimer tips his non-existent cap to the camera. The scene ends with the traditional fade to black. ]
