Anybody else take that like a backhanded compliment? Cause I sure as hell did lol novice writers? (BLEEP) off, let's pull out of roughkut.
just kidding, but honestly, that did leave a bad taste in my mouth. NAPW is definetly not novice. but hey, everyone's got their own opinion, and we all know the line about the a*sholes.
Nirvana's Never Mind album got 3 stars from rolling stone magazine. out of 5. when they did their top 500 albums ever?
number 2 all time. get my drift? NAPW RULES

Hey I worked really hard on the webpage. Actually the code for the design is more complicated than it looks, but that's all I've ever gone for. Easily accessible and easily readable. I've seen a dozen "flashy" e-wrestling sites where you can't even figure out how to access the RP board, and that's pretty much crap. Over time I'd like to add some more graphics --- those title belt images are still coming... Anyways, I got no beef with this review. He nailed all of our strengths, although I don't know exactly how deep he went with his research. The reality is, NAPW --- compared to a lot of "major" feds --- doesn't have the "writing talent." That's not a knock on anybody here. The thing is though, NAPW is also focused on wrestling. A lot of feds with great writers, I don't understand why the characters are even wrestling. Most of us don't write novels. I've always wanted NAPW to be a place where rookies to e-wrestling or younger players can feel welcome. We don't have a "sample RP" section on the application or a "developmental territory" for applicants we don't consider "good enough." And I think most people who have joined here become better writers... Of course, we do have some fantastic talent here that may feel unappreciated by that review. I remember the old geocities feds, and I firmly believe the majority of NAPW talent is certainly above the old one paragraph guestbook style RPs. Besides, my old feds were on Tripod! Anyways don't feel too insulted. NAPW is a promotion that accepts players of all talent and experience levels. That is why we have different divisions. It's not meant to insult anybody --- it's meant to give anybody who wants to play a level playing field overall. Ultimately it is up to the individual to get better and recognize the strengths and weaknesses of their writing should they want to break out of the TV title division or summat. In any event, no worries. We got a strong review.

People on Roughkut are, by their own admission, elitist. There are people who expect nothing less then 2000 words - otherwise the rp is crap and worthless.
Believe, I ran a fed bordering on that. But I lowered the standard slightly and made it more friendly before it closed down. Which reminds me, you might want to take the link down to SCCW now.
Anyway, writing 'talent' is in the eye of the beholder or something, it just depends on what you're going for. And we're damn good here.

Wait a minute? SCCW closed down? Didn't it reopen like just a bit ago?

NAPW scored a 4.5 out of 5 baby!
Now look at some of that dudes previous reviews. Most feds averaged in the 2-3 range.
We rock.
Case Closed.

I've responded on the thread, was I in line or do I sound too defensive?

I don't think you sounded defensive at all.
I think he reviewed us fairly, but i disagree with their opinion of what makes a good roleplayer.
I don't believe in big roleplays always being "better". I used too, but NAPW actually changed my view of that. A good roleplay has story, contiuation of that story, the match, and maybe some hype of the wrestlers finisher. It doesn't have to be a certain length.
I think you were just making your opinion of what NAPW is about, clear. RoughKut are hard markers and in my opinion; not good for the e-fedding game as a whole.
I think they take away passion of the roleplayer by being to intimidating. This game is supposed to be fun, not overly challenging like a 50,000 word term paper.
anyway, Cheers to RoughKut anyway and thanks for the Review.

I was fully excited to see NAPW getting recognition in reviews, and a high review at that. As it has been stated, 4.5/5? Damn!
As for any concern about whether we are a novice level crew of writers, take it for what you will. Ryan has summed up our entrance of rookies, and I definitely wrote absolute waste at the beginning (though... I don't know how much better it has got), and would have classified it as nothing but rookie.
If you want to be assured that the class of writers here ranges, look to the TEAM events we've participated in. D! was the CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS... so I think giving a nod to the single wrestler on top of multiple feds is nice to note. Of the other teams when we participated in a separate event, I still feel NAPW deserved more than we got judged for, and I was not intimidated by talent or length of other feds. Didn't D-X go undefeated in that tournament? And look how competitive our tag division is!
So yes, we have development of writing, but we have places that are developed as well.
And I will welcome any review of the fed. Criticism and recognition are a tasty snack.

the thing that i'm not clear on is how napw's biggest stars can go over to these supersites' supercards on rock them, yet "level of writing here is pretty much novice." the design is "basic as one could get?" if this guy actually remembered what circa 1999 geocities feds were like, he'd know that what ryan's put together >>> frames scrollbar, by far. one of the best "start up" feds? it's been around for more than a year.
imo, another bad review by another joke of a community. take it for what you will.

I believe that they hit the nail on the head on almost everything, but I think the reviewer may have been looking at the undercard when he said it reminded him of an "old geocities fed". While the people just coming into the game are getting their feet wet (we've all been there), the middle and upper card is filled with some of the most solid roleplaying I have ever seen.
If anything I'd have to say that the review was pretty fair, even though it was quite obvious the reviewer may have not looked into the fed as far as he could have. I do think that if anyone were to join, after a couple weeks they'd give up any other fed for this one. The staff/handler interaction is crazy good, and the lack of flashy design isn't a problem at all, you even like it after a few clicks because of easy navigation.
Overall, from an outsider's view, I probably would have rated it the same. That, however, is a great score (4.5/5) from someone who looked at a few shows and clicked on a few roleplays.

I'm not the greatest writer in the world.. But I dunno it offended me in some way. NAPW was my first real experience in e-Wrestling. I mean ask Ryan about when I first signed up, I had NO clue what I was doing. About the "rookie writing level" stuff.. I've looked around just for the hell of it and I've seen. "Tomorrow night *enter name of wrestler* is going to become the champion and theres nothing you can do about it" BAM thats rookie But hey, it got a 4.5 out of 5.

No, I didn't find it defensive in the least bit. But those jeans you're wearing does make your ass look big.

I'm quite content for NAPW to be people's first experience in e-wrestling. Many feds out there aren't interested in being a place where people can learn. While ultimately it is up to the individual, I do book to give everybody a chance and the opportunity to be involved in angles and matches they can win. So it's not like you join here, throw off a couple RPs that show you're pretty new to this or maybe young... and I set you up in ten matches you can't win against like Chris Casino and The Plague. Not saying that's you, Michael. But hey I'm glad you're in NAPW so it's all good.
