[fade up]
The Immortal is seen walking down a Calgary street. "Be Like That" by 3 Doors Down plays in the background as he walks by a series of homeless people huddled up beside heating vents, lining the streets.
He spends his nights in California,
Watching the stars on the big screen.
As our host walks by a dark alley, a small child comes out to meet him.
And then he lies awake and he wonders,
Why can't that be me?
::Boy:: Wow! You're The Immortal! I actually get to meet The Immortal!
::Immortal:: Yea. That's me.
'Cause in his life he's filled with all these good intentions.
Left a lot of things he'd rather not mention right now.
::Boy:: Aww, man you're so cool. I wish I could be just like you.
The Immortal just smiles and walks away.
Just before he says good night,
Leans up with a little smile at me and he says.
He moves to the middle of the street. He walks down the road, his steel blue eyes almost entrancing.
If I could be like that, I would give anything,
Just to live one day in your shoes.
A herd of poparazzi and cameras chase him into a dark alley, where he comes to a stop at a large barbed wire fence.
If I could be like that, what would I do?
What would I do?
The Immortal turns his head and torso to meet the poparazzi and cameras, but instead jumps his highest and clears the fence. He begins to run down a narrow, dark, wet road.
Now, in dreams, we run.
As he passes he sees an old woman sitting on a park bench wrapped in newspaper to keep warm.
She spends her days up in the North park,
Watching the people as they pass.
The woman and The Immortal watch as a man wearing an expensive suit picks a twenty up off the ground, and deliberately shoves it in his pocket and smiles.
And all she wants is just a little piece of this dream.
Is that to much to ask?
The Immortal watches dumbstruck at such an evil deed. He reaches in his pocket and gives the woman all of the money he had. She smiles as he walks away.
With a safe home, and a warm bed,
On a quiet little street.
He stops at a bus stop at the end of the street and sits on a bench, putting his head in his hands.
All she wants is just that something to hold on to.
That's all she needs.
The chorus plays as we hear The Immortal speak to himself.
::Immortal:: Who am I? Why do people want to be just like me? Do they even know who they want to be?
The Immortal stands and walks down the street once more. A door opens at the end of a street, the light inside makes it impossible to see inside. The Immortal walks in just as the song ends, the door closes.
