Why don't we all post who we think is the single greatest professional wrestler of all time. But let's make the cut-off those who debuted in 1960 or after. Hell you can even make a top ten if you like. Also, let's try to exclude those who wrestled predominantly outside of the United States.
The criteria should be
- In ring ability
- Microphone skills
- Gimmick
- Impact on professional wrestling
- Popularity
- Longevity
- Business savvy
Business savvy basically means doing what's right for the business, i.e Mick Foley putting Triple H over and Triple H in turn putting Batista over.
Gimmick means how well the superstar played up their gimmick and made it believable.
Impact means basically do you think you could write the history of professional wrestling without mentioning this wrestler's name. If so, he obviously can't be number one.
Using these criteria my selection for the best wrestler of all time would still have to be Hulk Hogan. Flame me all you like, but let's look at the facts. In ring ability: the man was in what many people call the most intense match ever, WMIII vs. Andre the Giant. Microphone skills: Do I even have to say anything for this? The man is still imitated today. He was corny as hell but for the time period that was pretty cool stuff. He was also a good heel with the mike. Gimmick: The man was the most popular face and possibly the most hated heel ever. That is very impressive. Impact: No explanation needed. The man brought wrestling to the masses. Popularity: Again, no explanation needed. Longevity: He's still wrestling today, pretty much every Summerslam. He's only been finished with full time for about 3 years. That's a 25 year career just about. Business Savvy: Ok everyone always talks about him holding down the younger guys. But hey, didnt he have to do the job to Yokozuna before he left for WCW? He could have said no to Vince but he did the right thing. He also put Goldberg over in a position where he could have very easily said no. Not to mention agreeing to lose one of the most hyped matches ever to the Rock at Wrestlemania.
These 9 guys round out my top 10
2. Ric Flair
3. Andre the Giant
4. Shawn Michaels
5. The Undertaker
6. Randy Savage
7. Bruno Sammartino
8. Terry Funk
9. Steve Austin
10. Superstar Billy Graham
that's my story and I'm sticking to it. just for fun heres my top ten favorite heels ever
1. Chris Jericho
2. Kurt Angle
3. JBL
4. Steve Austin (VERY underrated heel)
5. Edge
6. Rick Rude
7. Roddy Piper (believe it or not I like him better as a face)
8. Raven
9. Mr. Perfect
10. Scott Hall/Razor Ramon
I like top ten lists so let's start making 'em lol
