Tazz/Lawler was fantastic. Hehehe.
Angle/Orton was good, Orton is obviously not the man to really do amazing things in the ring, but it was good. And the crowd just tearing stupid Randy to pieces was great. Shoot fight Angle owns.
The tag match was great. Really fun to see Tajiri back.
Big Show in ECW? Well... it might just work. Crowd was apathetic until he hit a brand new move, cobra clutch into backbreaker on Mamaluke and just TOSSED him away. Fantastic.
Sabu/Rey was really going off the charts. I can see why they ended it the way they did (Don't want to job Sabu, don't want Rey to lose the belt), but I would've liked to see Rey win a match already! I really liked that he busted out the classic TIGHTS instead of his hip-hop pants, I like them better on him. The "ECW" mask was good too.
I was shocked by the intensity and blood in the hardcore match. It didn't seem to quite get going as a match, but Foley and Funk were insane. I was horrified by Funk's eye, and his screams of "MICK NOOOO! NO MICK NOOO!" when Foley was stomping him. I mean I'm sure it was just a good sell job and Mick didn't gouge out his eye, but ew. Funk was literally red after the match. Foley coming out of the wire was ...oh man.
I'm shocked Edge won. Notably, Edge didn't have that much heel heat at the arena. I think Dreamer/Funk should have won, because unless Edge goes ECW or Dreamer comes to Raw to blow it off in a singles match, why? That said, Beulah and Edge had a great three-second wordless dialogue using facial expressions before Edge speared her. Could've done without his 'humping' pin of her though.
Balls/Tanaka was fun, I guess it got shortened because of the time it took to get Funk cut out of the wire? Fun though. BALLS!
Eugene? Eh. Good way for Sandman to get on the card. He looks in good shape. No Enter Sandman... but since WWE actually pays for theme music... let's all guess that Internet-Hating-Bastards Metallica charge the same to use their songs as it would be to buy a small island, so no surprise there.
The main event was a reasonable match, Cena dragged it down for me, but I'll admit: He worked hard in it and really played the crowd well. The bit with the t-shirt at the beginning (Cena throwing it to the crowd, the crowd throwing itback.. like FIVE times) was classic.
I did not like the finish. I liked Edge in the bad jacket and motorcycle helmet but not that he speared Cena for RVD to win. I didn't like Heyman making the cover. He's not the referee! I did like Cena staying down for like... a LONG time, even after the Five Star hit, and still getting pinned down. Sells the five-star well.
If Edge was going to get involved, it would've been nice if Cena had kicked out after the spear and THEN RVD hit the frog splash.
However, the finish was really good. Heyman handing the belt to RVD on his knees, the emotion was raw, I got goosebumps.
I think the hardcore match took me out of the show, because I was LEGITIMATELY concerned with the well-being of Terry Funk. For that matter I was legitimately concerned with the well-being of Rey and Sabu. I had avoided results til watching it, but after the hardcore tag match I went to Inside Pulse for updates on their conditions. I couldn't enjoy the show until I knew they weren't as hurt as bad as it looked.
Anyways. I am excited for ECW, and hopefully after the next week ECW and WWE basically have nothing to do with one another. ECW as a separate promotion could be very fun. And unfortunately for TNA, Heyman is going to show them just how great a show you can book with only one hour of TV time.
