The past few months have seen a lot of craziness, and I think I've figured out a good schedule. Couple things:
-For those who don't know, the Heavyweight Title mandatory defense timeframe changed from within two weeks to three weeks. It's better for storyline purposes, building to a title match over that span.
-Expect supercards on a regular six-week schedule now.
-Don & Crusher, please let me know whyfore the no-shows at Epic.
-The big one regards title rematches. The official NAPW rules have been:
"A champion does not gain an automatic rematch. In GENERAL, the champion will receive a rematch. If Wrestler A loses the belt, then wins it back in his rematch, Wrestler B does not receive another rematch (Wrestler A won it back in his rematch.) Oftentimes to allow new wrestlers a chance at the belt, former champions will move into non-title related feuds to prevent the proverbial 'glass ceiling' from forming and effectively killing the respective division."
Automatic title rematches will NOT be granted. I want to make the rankings more important. Particularly in the Heavyweight Title division, the rankings have meant less than I'd like them to.
If a champion loses his belt, he can expect to become the number two or three contender (depending). If you've been champ? Hey, well expect you to possibly get back up there for another shot. Obviously if a champion loses his belt in a crazy screwjob, the feud may extend. That's as it comes.
I simply don't like auto-rematches. In real wrestling, I can watch the same match three PPVs in a row fairly easily. It's still entertaining, and obviously there's a long story to tell. In e-wrestling, I don't think it functions anywhere near as well. Three matches straight between RPers is draining on both sides of the equation. The rules aren't changing much, I'm just simply removing the 'in general he gets an auto-rematch.'
Again, it's a situational thing. Lloyd Rees vs Evan Cartwright was freaking awesome, and stuff like that will be allowed to develop. But overall I want the titles to be more competitive.
-Finally, I will continue to focus on having matches end with no bullshit finishes or overdone interference. Ravager's revolution obviously helps this from a storyline point of view, but my mandate is to have matches end cleanly. Sure, a heel can cheat, but I want the matches to end one-on-one as opposed to three run-ins and two ref-bumps. Beatdowns can wait until post-match.
Ring Of Honor is definitely influencing NAPW greatly, kids.
