Since 1997 New Brunswick, New Jersey's Thursday have been tearing up the Indy rock scene creating a rush of momentum with their first mainstream release "Full Collapse" (Victory Records).
Their very first major tour started in a friends basement and ended with a sell out performance. A true testament to the old cliché - Hard work = results.
However since Thursday's untimely release from Victory Records in 2002 and signing with Major Label - Island Records Goeff Rickly and company have yet to rekindle the intensity and magic of their 2001 masterpiece Full Collapse.
Only a few days away (May 2nd, 2006) away from their 4th full album in close to nine years, the question can be raised "What does Thursday have up their sleeves?".
After listening to the new disc A City By the Light Divided the conclusion can be drawn up that "not much" is up their sleeves this time around. With 11 new songs on the record Thursday fails to bring out anything considerably new as they pick up where songs off of Full Collapse left off... however that may not be such a good thing. Using the same old tricks, Thursday have only managed to do one thing with their new record - Bore Ian to death
Each song has their high points but those are rushed away quickly as every song seems to be just a little to long and repetitive. Perhaps it's time for Thursday to disband and go their separate ways? One things for sure, if you're a fan of Thursday you should tyr the record out but don't expect it to be a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination.
Buy it New or Used?: If at all - USED!
