In Jon Tees latest promo, the character Rick Tees commits several racist acts, culminating in the burning of the Mexican flag while Jon Tees protests. The NAPW rules state ban racism in promos.
I read into the RP that the Tees may take this somewhere other than simple racism, but I am unsure. So point blank: Was that promo over the line and racist, or was it good storytelling?

I kind of get where he wants to go with the story. I think burning the flag (any flag) is in poor taste, but I don't think this was a racist statement. Maybe see what happens in the next promo.

I'm not offended, and I'm half Mexican. But to be fair, I wasn't offended by JBL pulling the same shenanigans, his goose-stepping in Germany, Randy Orton declaring Eddie Guerrero was in Hell, or Vince McMahon's church sketch. I just seem to tolerate more than some people.
We've got the one seemingly racist character in the RP, but even then it doesn't seem to be the only viewpoint in the promo, or even treated frivolously.
El Mentiroso is Mexican, his theme music is the National Anthem, and he's modeled himself off of a cultural figure. Mentiroso uses the Mexican culture as his gimmick and for face heat; it's not entirely unbecoming for his heel opponent to attack him for it, and even though there must be a line he can cross, a flag-burning doesn't do it on its own.

The next series will involve “Damage Control” as it relates to Jon Tees trying to smooth over some of the controversial antics of his nephew. Racism in general was not the intention, more or less a slap in the face of El Mentiroso’s proud Mexican Heritage, from person to person.
Mind games to an extent. Whose to even say it was an authentic Mexican flag? More to come later.

Look I am not part of this company, but I know someone who is (REX and Travalli) and I see nothing wrong with what was done in that RP as like was said in another reply it is all to get Heel heat for the wrestler and nothing more and the way I see it is that if the wrestler he was talking about doesn't have a problem with it then no one else should....Now thats my 2 cents and I hope you don't mind me saying what I did.
P.S. I have talked to Rex and I have been thinking of joining NAPW and I know Rex and Travalli from another company we are in together.

I believe the promo was unorthodox but at the same time it does give his character an unusual edge and we all get an image because of it. I think based on his promo being that of making a strong statement with his character it should be accepted under the freedom of expression clause. :-)
However where do we draw the line?
If we flag burning is fine, where exactly would the line drawn for racism (if we ever deal with said issue again in the future.)?

Didn't read the RP but my two cents. Me and Kyle tagged for a few weeks in a fed, (it Died before our tag title match anyways) We did alot of anti America things and played proud Canadians. Doing stuff to the American flag was done. Poor taste or great heel heat? As we called Americans every name in the book... we were slandering a country... not a race. As in Mexico there are more than just Mexicans who live there... even though the percentage is pretty high for the Mexicans. Slandering a country isn't as bad as taking on religion, or actual race and shouldn't be viewed as racism.

Agreed. Burning a flag is a valid form of expressing disapproval with a nation. I don't see burning a Mexican flag as anything approaching racism against Latinos.
Using derogatory terms is a different kettle of fish, but that's not the case in Tees' promo.

I should take the time to point out here, howeevr, something I've always felt very strongly about . . . The Mexican Flag is the Greatest Flag in History [/center] I mean, look at it. Right there. Gimme one other country whose flag has an animal beating the crap out of another animal.
Awesome.

I don't agree with the statement: "if it gets heel heat it's all good." Sides, if the only heat you can get is cheap heat I don't need.
In this case, I think there is a story behind it and it's fine. Obviously if somebody comes in and starts saying '(BLEEP)ing gooks', spics, slanty-eyed asians, etc, nig ger etc we've got probs. Otherwise...
Police yourselves!

Let me repeat: The Mexican Eagle is whipping the tar out of that jabroni snake, possibly with some kind of Eagle Vitiator. I don't think your Ugandan Toucan can even run with that crowd.

He'll hide in the Lebanese tree and dive bomb the 'mauling' bird with his red and yellow saw blade hat! Ugandan Dive-bomb-of-war!
