MTV are producing a wrestling pilot show at the moment which will include, Newjack, Xpac, Justin Credible among others.
Apparently this is not going to be in direct competition with TNA or WWE.
I perhaps see this as the way forward for wrestling in general. Combining wrestling with current successful programing helped produce the attitude era.
In which in the late 90's everyone was crazy about the Jerry Springer show. So WWF based its self on that. (Along with ECW).
This could spark another new era for wrestling in my opinion. With no geeky loser annoucers such as Todd Pissem and that other little bloke from Toung Enough 1.
Instead having hip people involved in the business. This could help eradicate gimmicks (as you all hate apparently.) and have more serious wrestlers such as ghetto bronx bad boys. And other people who are allegedly tough.
MTV could make wrestling cool once again.

MTV could make wrestling cool once again. They're going forward by basing their promotion on men who have never done anything substantial on network TV (a small case could be made for Xpac, but only a small case). Justin Credible's ECW title reign was abysmal, New Jack is inasne. (In Forever Hardcore, he actually admitted to trying to kill his opponent. And it wasn't a forced confession. he said "yeah, I tried to kill him") and Xpac ... if you don't have anything nice to say.... MTV has signed Jack Evans. If you've seen any of his ROH stuff, then you'll agree that he could be the sole bright spot for their promotion. Also, MTV has tried wrestling before. They had Heat, and they also had "The War to Settle the Score" Between Hogan and Piper. But they only use wrestling to help their ratings, they aren't concerned with moving wrestling forward. As soon as the ratings dip, the MTV wrestling promotion will be laid aside.

And other people who are allegedly tough. I don't mind gimmicks. I just prefer that they're based a bit more in reality. For example, Eugene. When I first heard they were doing a mentally handicapped wrestler, I was groaning big time. Then I saw how they were angling him in as this wrestling savant, and I thawed on the gimmick. Then when they went lazy and make him just rehash old wrestlers moves, I was back to groaning... I like Simon Dean's gimmick. Hey, an advertiser who decided to get into the ring! Nice! When Viscera's gimmick is anally violeting a man in the ring, because he's the World's Largest Love Machine? That's not so cool. Speaking of cool, Carlito's definitely a gimmick I get behind... My point is, some gimmicks can help get a guy over, and gives him something different. If every MTV wrestler's just some MMA-looking guy? Nobody's going to go for that.
