Monday, May 21st, 2007. We are in a gym. A few hours after the big interview with Ravager and Simply Beautiful. SB is lifting weights, getting ready for Tagstravaganza. The camera pans over to Ravager, who stands watch. He looks a bit annoyed right now, as he talks to a voice off screen.
Voice: He didn't give you a lot of time to speak, did he?
Ravager: (chuckles) Part of his charm is his ability to talk a good game. I'd be more worried if he didn't say anything.
Voice: He didn't seem to think too highly of you. Didn't he call you "Mr. No Personality"?
Ravager: That's NAPW Champion No Personality. I win matches by dropping people on their heads, or making them tap out. A gimmick sells T-Shirts. Words get your opponent riled up, or the fans on your side. I can do that when I have to, but when it comes right down to it, my talking is best done with fists and submission maneuvers, not with catch-phrases.
Voice: That would be bad for business.
Ravager: So you want to be cute too?
Voice: No. Just checking in on things.
Ravager: So what do you really think about me in Tagstravaganza?
Voice: You're risking a lot. Especially teaming with a man who has more to gain than you do.
Ravager: He asked me for help. He stood up when I asked once before, how could I say no?
Voice: Easy, you say "no". Two letters, one syllable. Barely a breath needed to say it. You're the NAPW champion. You've got a target on your back thanks to the owner of the NAPW. You've got three records you're trying to maintain now. You're finally being taken seriously as champion. And you take a tag match teaming with one of the top contenders to the belt? And you're in a gauntlet where two of your top enemies of all time are waiting for you?
Ravager: Casino and I beat the hell out of each other two weeks in a row. We went to hell and back for my title and his. And I came out on top. I can do it again. Martyr talks a good game, but one mistake and Casino will turn on him so fast. That goth freak will be taken down so quick...
Voice: That "goth freak" came damn close to facing you for the title. And who tossed him out of Sole Survivor? I believe it was your partner. Casino and Martyr have more reason than anyone to take you two out. Even if Rex was ON your side, you'd be in trouble. And what about Roberts?
Ravager: He's a tough opponent. A decent tag partner. He may not show it all the time, but he has a passion for this business that rivals anyone else's. It's too bad he has that big chip on his shoulder that I oh so love to try and knock away. He doesn't need any extra motivation to fight me. And I don't need any extra to fight him. It's business as usual between us. A lot of hate, and a stubborn refusal to lose. If our teams wind up facing off, it'll be a battle, but I know we can win. Same as I'm sure we can beat The Foundation.
Voice: The Rebel tag champs. Who have been teaming for years. Are on the same page, and are in it for the long haul?
Ravager: You've seen my desire to win. You've seen Simply Beautiful's desire to win. It doesn't matter how long our opponent's have teamed up, they still can't match our fire....
Voice: When you guys were sparring, did you work on any double team moves?
Ravager: Yes. The basics mostly, but we'll have a few surprises.
Voice: They're far beyond "the basics". They have double teaming down pat. You better be ready to be fighting off two men at once...
Ravager: It's become a hobby of mine the last few weeks. If you're trying to scare me...
Voice: Like you'd acknowledge fear anyways. No. I want you to face facts. You are a lone wolf. Simply Beautiful is a singles specialist. Neither of your personalities fits into a "team" mentality. This is not a profitable alliance.
Ravager: I'll be the judge of that.
Voice: You know, he says that he turned down Rex's offer for help. But think for a second. Putting you two in this gauntlet, especially against some of your biggest rivals. You get hurt in this...
Ravager: I won't.
Voice: But say you do. Who do you think'll get the next title shot?
Ravager: The Beast has his Battle Bowl ring...
Voice: But I'm betting Simply Beautiful will get another shot at the big time. Because Rex did him the biggest favor of all. he didn't object when SB asked you to be his partner. And he didn't fight when you agreed. He's been very accessible to you two being in Tagstravaganza. Now why would he do that? Unless he has something to gain? Take care champ. And watch your back...
Ravager watches as the person he's been conversing with walks off. Simply Beautiful walks over.
SB: Is that who I think it was?
Ravager: It was.
SB: What does he want with you?
Ravager: He just wants to make sure I'm making all the right decisions.
SB: Are you?
Ravager: For your sake? You better hope so. because if I've made the wrong decision here, it'll mean I was wrong to trust you. And you don't want to break my trust, partner. Now come on, we have to work on some more double team moves. We got to know more than the basics.
SB: Hey!
Ravager: What?
SB: You made the right choice. I'm on your side, and we're going to take those belts, no matter who's against us.
Ravager: Keep that attitude in the ring, and we're set. Now let's get moving.
They exit. Cut to later in Ravager's apartment. He is going over the pictures of his opponents. Chris Casino. Sebastian Martyr. Prince Darko. Thomas Young. Kyle Roberts. The Assman. Mystic Ninja. The Expositioner. Jared Cypress. Raiyn. Crusher. Warren. Ravager writes on each photo:
Probable opponent. Potential victim. Definite cause for concern
On Simply Beautiful's photo he writes:
If The Trust Is There, You're Unbeatable. If Not...
Ravager looks confident at this point. he can't feel anything else, or he'd be eaten alive. He looks at the NAPW title belt and smirks. He wraps it around his waist. He gathers his ring gear, and heads out the door, shutting the lights as he leaves. The camera follows him as he walks down the hallway.
So Rex. Here I go. On my way to Tagstravaganza. I have an opponent I'm not 100% sure I can trust. I have opponents that would love to see me lose everything. And I have a boss that wants me out of wrestling for good. Not to mention several streaks that I want to keep going, as well as a record breaking title reign. Why do I risk going into Tagstravaganza? And why do I even bother going in to work, knowing what's against me?
Ravager smirks.
Because I can overcome it all.
My undefeated streak? It took hard work, and a bit of luck. I am proud to share that record. I'll be even prouder to beat it. But if by some chance I see my streak broken? I'll set another one. Because I'm that damn good. I keep proving it to the doubters week after week. And I'll enjoy proving it to you Rex. You've deluded yourself into thinking that I've gotten to where I am by luck and shenanigans. But when I leap your petty little hurdles, the lies get harder to justify. You have to stretch your creativity. And unfortunately, you're not that creative. Remember after the riot last year? I seem to recall you going to the Mayor of Edmonton, and you two having a grand press conference trying to get me kicked out of town. Too bad the mayor has little credibility among the public, and the business owners laughed off your little stunt like it was nothing. Your mind game before our big match? Putting my phone number on a poster so people would call and harass me? (chuckles) One phone call. One changed phone number, and your little scheme went out the window. And now you've got a stable ready to do your bidding? You seem to forget history. Stables in the NAPW fade fast. We're in an ego driven, "me first" business. The instant you stop making life easy for Rees and Banks; the first disagreement with Static, and you'll be on your own. Sure, you'll have the NAPW, but with no back up, you're just a petty, lonely man. A man I will take great delight in annoying.
I will defend my title against the best this business has to offer. I am not scared of competition. I am not afraid of losing this belt. Because even if I do? I will get it back. No matter what. You may be able to keep me out of the title hunt for a while, Rexy, but sooner or later it'll become painfully obvious that I deserve to fight for the honor of being the NAPW champion. Sooner or later the fans will start asking for me to fight for the title again. The reason I got so many chances Rex? It's because day in day out, I live, eat, sleep and breath wrestling. And I do it all for the NAPW. Many have come and gone, but aside from Richards, I'm the only one to have lasted since day one without running off on some "sabbatical". I fight for this company. I fight because the fans in this town want the best wrestling money can buy, and I can deliver. I fight because I want the NAPW to be known worldwide. I fight because I ever since I wrestled in the very first NAPW match, I knew this would be something special. Something that I want my name to be associated with. Why did I get so many shots? Because I deserved them. The fact that I've held this belt longer than anyone else should be enough proof. But you're no ordinary man, are you Rex?
I will not let you ruin the NAPW Rex. Not over a silly little feud. Not because some fan hurt your feelings. Not because your legacy as champion was one title defense. Not because you failed to be a father. Whatever you take from me, I'll get back, with interest. Whatever streak you end, I'll start a new, longer one. One that nobody will ever surpass. You strike me down, I'll get back up, stronger than ever. You're a joke Rex. I respected you for leaving the way you did. You saw your son needed you, and you walked out rather than letting yourself get fired. You had dignity. Courage. You were a champion, even without a belt around your waist. But now you're a tyrant. You have a taste of power and it's gone to your head. You think you're untouchable?
Ravager stops and glares directly at the camera.
You saw what happened to the last guy who called himself "Untouchable". And you're not better than him Rex. Not by a long shot. You may have gotten me kicked out of Raleigh. But here?
Ravager gestures for the camera to follow. He walks outside his apartment. He walks to his car. Dumps his bags in the trunk. He gets in. Cut to a few minutes later. We are on top of a familiar rooftop on Whyte Avenue.
I may not have been born here, but I call this place home. You? You may have an apartment here, but you're just a visitor. You try and come in and tell people how to live; How "Your way is better"? (smirks) And you're in for a shock. The people of this city rolled their eyes at you once before, and they'll do it again. This is my city. This is my NAPW. This is my life. Boss or not, nothing you can do will ever take any of that from me.
You think different, Rex?
Try and change my mind. It'll be just another failure for you to add to the list.
Fade to Black.
Just a little reading material before TAGSTRAVAGANZA goes up. ;D
OOC NOTE: Parts of this promo were intended to be used for Tagstravaganza, but were not. I had a brainstorm at work, and a promo half written, and thought "Why let anything go to waste?"
Simply Beautiful used with permission.
