Cut into darkness. Loud darkness, the sound of a camcorder running with the lens cap still on. There's a mechanical buzz, perhaps the microphone is about to give out. There is some shuffling in the... background? Foreground? Who can tell? What we can tell, however, is that there's a voice cutting through the darkness, right in front of our obscured view...
MAN - This isn't where I thought I'd be in 2007.
A pause makes the darkness even more uncomfortable.
MAN - Things were supposed to be different. The big wrestling boom of the 90's. Kids getting the bug, everyone was gonna be a big star. And everyone had a title. Hell, even I was a World Heavyweight Champion!
An audible sigh comes from the man addressing us all.
MAN - But like all booms, the wrestling fad came crashing down. 6 good years of my life went down the drain as fans moved on and backers ran and hid from their obligations! Dreams of gold and leather washed away with the tin and cardboard of a great depression! Only the foundations stood. Only the people that really had talent stuck around. I had that talent... but after all that hard work, I didn't have that desire anymore. I didn't wanna work long and hard to see another piece of gold turn to lead.
There is some shuffling and a long pause, and finally, the lens cover comes off. The camera comes into focus on a man in his mid 30's, with stringy black hair coming down to his shoulders, wearing a black polo shirt with a star monogram reminiscent of the Walk of Fame stars. Across his forehead is a large, prominent scar, and while the face looks older, the eyes of the man show the spirit, determination, and arrogance of a man many years his younger.
MAN - 4 years sitting at home, after a hard day's work... I've found that fire again. That desire to prove to each and every person that steps into an arena that I am what I say I am. The desire to hold championship gold, to wear that belt around my waist... to be the best damn wrestler on God's green Earth and be your champion!
The man sits back and smirks, a glint in his eye.
MAN - So, NAPW, don't be afraid, don't fight it. Learn to accept it, because your Savior has arrived. Wrestling greatness is here... and his name... is Donovan Astros.
Astros stands up and puts his hand over the camera lens as we go to black just as quickly as we left.
