Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Ravager has arrived. He walks down Yonge Street, looking tired from his trip. As he walks down the street, he is approached by a panhandler.
Panhandler: Spare change?
Ravager: (smirking, tosses the panhandler a toonie) Only because you make me feel at home.
Ravager walks off. He is stopped by three more panhandlers. Ravager isn't smirking anymore.
Ravager: I'm out of cash.
He walks off, muttering:
Ravager: And I thought Whyte Ave was bad.
Ravager keeps walking, until he reaches a Second Cup. He goes inside, buys a cup of coffee, and goes to a table, where The Celtic Assassins, "The Scottish Wrecking Machine" Al Thoes, and "The Irish Adonis" Bobby O'Brady are sitting.
Ravager: Gentlemen. Shouldn't you be preparing for the start up of REBEL?
Thoes: We could ask ye the same thing.
Ravager: Well, I got the NAPW to worry about too. Mainly defending their top prize.
O'Brady: Oh, aye, and you got the whole world against ye, too.
Ravager: Well, Toronto at least. And most of the NAPW wrestling fans.
Thoes: How does it feel to be an underdog, champ?
Ravager: I thought you'd know.
Thoes: Aye, we've been underdogs since the beginning. But not you. You stepped up day one and claimed title gold. You've had some rocky spots, but you've never been out of the main event for long, have ye?
Ravager: What's your point?
O'Brady: Just echoing everything you've been saying. You think nobody believes in you. Your abilities. Or that your a worthy champion. Well, we just thought you could use a bit of encouragement.
Thoes: If it weren't for you, we'd still be toiling in the gym trying to get bigger and bigger. It wasn't until you started smacking us upside the head that we decided to become better wrestlers. And you gave us a chance in the Revolution...
Ravager: Don't bring that up...
O'Brady: What, you think it was a career high point for us? All we're saying is, you can beat Kryenik. Don't listen to the fan voting. They have their favorites, but they don't have any idea what it takes to win in the ring. Kryenik is tough, believe us, we know. But you?
Thoes: You've been underestimated so many times. And you come out on top. Meanwhile Kryenik has been labeled a future champion ever since he started in NAPW, and yet he never won any type of prize until last month. Sure, he got handed a tag title with Cartwright, but he never won one on his own.
O'Brady: Well, he could still beat him Tuesday...
Thoes: Yes, but the point is Kryenik has been hyped up so much, yet he doesn't have a lot to show for it yet.
O'Brady: So he'll have a lot to prove too...
Thoes: But Ravager has more to prove. He's got so many doubts about him...
O'Brady: Which could create insecurities, which Kryenik could capitalize on...
Thoes: You remember the whole point of us being here?
O'Brady: Killing time before we catch TMNT?
Ravager: Guys...
Thoes: I just thought we could shine a little bit of light into his gloomy day, and you're going and darkening things up even worse!
O'Brady: Well, it's not like he'd sugar coat things for us!
Ravager: He raises a good point...
Thoes: I'm on your side, Ravager!
Ravager: You both are. The praise is nice. Support is always appreciated. But I need people to let me know when I need to improve. The doubts people have about me? It stings. It makes me angry. But it only serves to drive me even harder. It'll make my win Tuesday night that much sweeter. I don't need my ego inflated. I need a good dose of reality. Which I've gotten. Now, I must be on my way. Good luck in REBEL, guys. I'm sure I'll be seeing you soon.
Ravager gets up and walks out.
Cut to his hotel room several hours later. It's midnight. And sleep is not coming easily. He walks over to a chair where the NAPW title belt rests. He takes it, sits on the bed and stares at it.
The first time I had you, I didn't appreciate you enough. I mean, I never wanted to be like D! and cuddle you like some kind of security blanket. But I never wore you enough. After all I did to earn you, I didn't give you the respect you should have gotten. And for over a year you were handed around to others. Some treated you well. Rex. Cartwright. Even Rees, to a certain extent. But I knew you'd be back around my waist soon enough. And here you are. I've defended you twice. Simply Beautiful came close to taking you. Rees came even closer. But Kryenik... he's got the best chance of all. And everyone knows it. Everyone is telling me that my title reign will be short lived. That you'll be going home with "Sick" Billy Tuesday night. But I got a secret for you:
I like to prove people wrong. I've done it so many times before. What's one more. And here's the thing - if I can get by Kryenik, then any other challenge?
Ravager smirks.
Will be that much easier. Not because the competition will be weaker. No. It'll be easier because the doubts will be quieter. The respect will be greater. Because people won't want me to prove them wrong again.
I'm going to have you for a long time. ... But this will be the last time I talk to you. Because I'm starting to creep myself out here. Damn I wish I could sleep...
Ravager puts the title belt back on the chair, and flips on the TV. Cut to a few minutes later. Ravager has dozed off. On the TV is a local Toronto station, and an add for Sole Survivor 2. Ravager and Kryenik are on the screen, with the words:
Ontario's own "Sick" Billy Kryenik goes for the NAPW title this Tuesday! Can he over come the Ravager?
The commercial goes to black. Then the screen goes to static, as the station ends it's broadcasting day...
