It's The Plague. The one-time and future two-time NAPW Champion. He's standing in front of a dark grey curtain with the NAPW logo on it. The NAPW interview banner. The Plague.
You know, kid, I have this time today to come out here and just one more time, cut a promo on you, sell the match, and make sure you know just how much more you're going to get from The Plague this time around. And none of that's changed. Tomorrow night, you and I go at each other for one more go-round, the NAPW championship on the line, daddy! It's going to be a helluva match.
But the reality is, today, anybody who has ever loved the sport of professional wrestling is feeling the same thing. Grief. Loss. Confusion. Maybe anger in some of us. And really, none of us truly have a right to lay claim to saying that the loss of Eddie Guerrero affects us more than the people who truly know him. The man had a wife, he had kids, he had dear friends. So I'm not going to come out here and pretend I knew him, say some shit about how I'm going to do it for Eddie. But I'll tell you what I am going to do:
I'm going to go out to the ring tomorrow night on MNF, first and foremost a fan of this sport. A fan from the time I was barely waist-high. I'm going to go out, look around, make the fans hate me, make them boo me, and I'm going to do it knowing that what we do matters. This isn't some joke sport. I've hated it in the past, I hate it today: "It's all fake, right?" Fake. Fake. The next time somebody comes up to me and says wrestling's not real, I'm going to beat the living hell out of them! Eddie Guerrero made us feel! And what we felt was REAL! D! D! ONE LETTER! I know you know. You're a student, you're a fan, and if you're any kinda fan, than you know. You know Eddie Guerrero.
So let's you and me go out there, no bullshit to anybody about OUR grief when there are people out there TRULY affected by his loss. Let's you and me go out there, kid, and give the fans a match they'll be talking about in Edmonton for years. Let's show him what we've got, let's show 'em why we do this, and let's tear the house down. Because Eddie? He made this sport mean something to a lot of people. EDDIE meant something to a lot of people. I'm not going to forget what he did to make our sport acceptable again. I know you won't, D!.
You and me. All we got. Believe me, kid. You're going to get all I got. There's not a chance in HELL I'd give anything less. Tomorrow night, kid.
Tomorrow night. I'll see you in the ring.
Lights.
