Went to the Prairie Wrestling Alliance show tonight. One of the best nights of wrestling in my life. There was so much blood on the floor I swear we could start cloning new wrestlers (Bless Abdullah The Butcher). Samoa Joe was incredible live. Jim Neidhart... less said about him the better. But I want to make mention of one thing:
Goldust/Dustin Runnels was booked to be at this show, as well as the Bad News Allen Tribute show the night before. When talking to the PWA owner last Sunday, he said how much Dustin was looking forward to the show, and that he was going to auction off two of his robes.
Dustin took his pre booking fees for both shows. He cashed in his plane ticket. And he no showed. What a (BLEEP)ing douche. A man whose best days of his career were long gone, takes the money and runs, even though he was advertised (and PAID). At least Joe delivered.

That's weird on Dustin's, because a month ago he showed up to CCW. (Coastal Championship Wrestling) Which is a lot more indie then PWA.

He won one of those two-cent-get-the-belt-out-of-the-vending-machine-plastic-bull-shits. He fell to his knees and cried tears of joy.

Gotta agree with Allan there--one of the best nights of wrestling in my entire life, and I'm including that night in Amsterdam at the identical twin all-nude bikini oil Jell-O mud wrestling pillowfight finals. That's right, you heard me.
I must have said "Holy crap" 500 hundred times, and that was just for the Abdullah the Butcher match. I mean, yeah, the dude's way old and can't physically get into the ring, but holy crap (there it is again), did they make it worthwhile.
Being that close to guys that have given so much to the industry and fans like us was at once humbling and mess-your-pants exciting. sweet monkey butter, but it's at times like these that I'm glad I'm a wrestling fan! So... much... blood...
Samoa Joe vs. Johnny Devine? Great googaly moogaly, but it's simply unreal how those two guys can take a tiny ring in a college gymnasium and make it look like they're performing spots for a PPV. That's the kind of professionalism and in-ring performing ability wrestling fans enjoy and deserve. I mean, it's a much more sincere and humble product than anything the WWE can offer right now, but maybe it's because WWE has gotten so large that it can't afford to connect with fans on a more intimate level. Because when Joe had to pause the match right at the start and roll out of the ring to laugh his ass off, just because the fans were chanting "you lick balls" at Devine, I almost had a nerdgasm. It's that kind of sincerity that I enjoy in today's professional wrestling.
And I just gotta say, for some kind of record, that I was really looking forward to Goldust. He was one of my favourite performers and I felt he kinda got shafted the several times he was let go from WWE. I defended him against Goldust haters and Dustin Runnels haters, and squealed an inner child squeal of joy whenever I saw him on screen. Now that I know what a big douchebag he is, however, I don't think I can say that I care very much about him anymore. Way to take what little respect you might have had left and piss it away, Dustin.
I'm sad to say that I'm feeling a little the same way about Anvil. The last couple of times I've seen him in PWA, I've wanted him to just calm down, get off the dope, and just be there for the fans as former wrestling superstar, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart. Sadly, it seems he really needs to be THE ANVIL at these shows and consequently feels he needs some artificial assistance in order to do so.
Yeah, the crowd was on his side the whole time, and yeah, it's good for all us 80's wrestling fans to have Anvil come to the show, and yeah, he's probably the salt of the earth outside the ring. But dear god, man, put that man in a chair and leave him there for the whole show. Because when he was in the midst of trying to figure out where he was last night and what he was supposed to be doing in that ring, I was afraid for him, his opponent, any PWA staffer who got in his way, and any fans close to him.
That said, I'm really looking forward to the next show. Thanks to the PWA for working so hard to brings guys like Joe and Abdullah and Johnny Devine (and yeah, even Anvil) in for us local fans.
