From Wrestlezone.com:
"Former ECW world champion Mike Awesome, 42, has passed away. His real name was Mike Alfonso.
According to reports, Awesome was found dead on Saturday morning in the Tampa Area. Friends were coming to his home in Tampa to pick him up and go out Saturday night at about 10:30 p.m. and he never answered the door and found him hanging in the home. It is believed the death was due to suicide pending results of the autopsy.
In addition to working in the U.S., he also worked for FMW in Japan. He will probably be most remembered as the ECW champion that signed with WCW when he still held the title.
Tazz was brought in by WWE to take the title from him, as he jumped to WCW. Awesome announced his retirement from wrestling in early 2006."

This is terrible. Especially if it was a suicide. Way to young for him to be taken away from his family.

damn. I was actually a huge mark for Awesome during his stay in FMW and ECW. WWE & WCW totally missed the boat on him. Need proof? His match at the first ECW One Night Only was by far the most enjoyable of the evening. Ten ring bell salute to another fallen warrior

not to sound like an ass. but if it was suicide, I'd rather prefer it as oppose to OD on painkillers or heart failure.

The man was found hanging by his friends. It's bad enough that he (possibly) took his own life, but you have to feel for his friends who found him. As well as his family, who'll have to wonder "why?".

Whatever reason he had, I know I'll miss the guy, and I'll definetely have a prayer for him and his family tonight. Rest in peace, sir.

Man.
I'm gutted about that.
Mike Awesome, he was a fantastic powerhouse, one of the best of the "new breed". Real shame he had to go, especially like this. I'll never forget his matches with Masato, or his ECW run. Inspirational, and a real shame.
Rest in peace, Mike, I hope you're far happier now. You deserve it. Thanks for the memories.

Need proof? His match at the first ECW One Night Only was by far the most enjoyable of the evening. i remember watching that and hearing JBL praise Awesome from their balcony. I kept getting all these ideas on JBL and Awesome as a unit. Not a tag team, but Awesome would have added great credibility and skill to his "cabinet" back when that angle was going on. Its not often you can see such a large man fly through the air so easily. Thankfully someone invented Youtube and everytime i have an itch for some AWESOME BOMBS i can search them. To Mike Awesome! Cheers
