Okay, I collect WWE Classic Superstar figures (not dolls, figures) Not all of them but ones I basically grew up watching. Some of the ones I have are The Fabulous Freebirds, Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, Bam Bam Bigelow, Arn Anderson, Barry Windham, Dean Malenko, Tazz, Sabu and so on. Aaaaaaaaaaanyway....I've been trying to snatch the ever elusive Eddie Guerrero figure since before he died. Today, I was 3 minutes, three stinkin' minutes before he was mine. So what happens? I stepped away from the computer, fed the cats and make a quick phone call. I came back to the comp thinking finally I've gotten the one guy I've been after for over a year now (wait...that sounds gay oh well) and I find... I was OUTBIDDED at the last possible second!!! ARRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! DAMN you EBay! DAMN YOU!!!! Okay.....I've vented. Phew, that felt good.

People shouldn't be allowed to bid in the last two minutes unless they've placed more bids than the highest bidder. I would love that rule (listening, eBay?)

Heh. Yeah the "last minute snatch" mentality is pretty tough on people who've been working on it for days. Mind you I'm guilty of it myself. I mean it's an auction. It doesn't matter when you bid so long as you bid more than the last person. Unfortunately to really get a hot item you have to be refreshing every ten seconds til the end.

If i have to be away from the com during last minute EBay auctions on something I really, really want I'll bid again as close to end as I can and make it a really(sometimes ridiculously) high bid to try to head that off,of course it's backfired a few times though.

Like you've paid a redonkulous amount for something?
That's really what keeps me off ebay that much. I'm there for steals and deals... even for some classic Transformers I won't pay more than 20 bucks.

What keeps me off EBay is shipping costs. I can't believe the times that shipping costs were more than what I paid for an item

Having done shipping to the US and being aware of shipping from US to Canada, it bugs me how many people rip you off on shipping. It costs two bucks, tops to ship say one cd from the US to Canada. I once got burned on an auction that charged eight dollars.
Obviously larger items cost a lot more, but there are many items on ebay where the seller severely rips you off on shipping. I mean I get that you're on ebay to make a profit. But make it from the item. Of course if people buy products with outrageous shipping, then sellers will continue to charge it.

I never use eBay, I don't like it.
Auctions are a decent idea in theory, but in practice they're just annoying. Last minute bids are lame, but frankly, unless you're at your computer 24/7, there's bound to be something you want to bid for, but won't be around when the timer runs down. So what do you do? Lose the item, obviously.
It's not convenient, and to be fair, it's not even cheap.
I only really buy books/CDs/DVDs/VHS, and generally, it's just cheaper on Amazon.co.uk's marketplace. I don't remember paying more than £4-6 for a CD from there, and that's BARGAINOUS.
Much cheaper than high street, and cheaper than eBay from my experience. Of course, I've never actually SEEN any of these fabled "steals" on there, but maybe I just don't look often enough.

Depends what you're looking for.
The majority of my ebay purchases have been rare and out-of-print cds, usually by fairly obscure artists. As such I've been able to get something I can't get at a store - online or physical - for a decent price. Unless of course we're talking about the rare and out-of-print Starflyer 59 "The Drop" 7", which routinely goes for +50 dollars or more for three (count 'em) three songs.
Bwahahaha.
Short form: I don't use ebay for NEW merchandise. Hard-to-find and out-of-print stuff that won't cost me a fortune though...

Fair point. I don't buy old stuff. I could probably sell my hasbro WWF figures. I hear Dusty Rhodes goes for a fair bit these days. But nah.

talk to someone who uses ebay often and find out where to download ebay sniper. Its a device my friend used to use that puts ur bid in at the last possible second if the bid is still in ur price range. Though i think ebay might have banned such devices by now.
