Pilot (taped back at the begining of summer)
Musical break: The audience was herded to the other side of the set where a stage was erected. Zakk Wylde and Black Label Society were our surprise musical guest. They got the crowd loud, performing "Stillborn" and another song. A mosh pit broke out. 6pac joined the crowd to listen. We had to reshoot part of the music break. There were cell phone cameras galore.
Back to the ring for our first official match.
First match: Jack Evans def. Matt Sydal (w/ Lizzy Valentine) This was my first time seeing either of these guys live. Evans certainly lived up to the online press I'd heard. Lots of acrobatic moves and sick submissions. Another match with great, unforced crowd response, lots of "Holy Sh**" chants as these guys hit hard on the bare concrete floor and steel barracade. As an aside, there seemed to be a strong contingent of SoCal wrestling fans mixed in with the paid background talent.
Main event: It was show time and in a big way. The crew came out to reconfigure the steel barricades. Tables, ladders, high voltage boxes, chain link trampolines and a few more tables for good measure. There'd been a buzz from the start of the show that New Jack was going to take a leap from a high perch on the set. They set up a table just below that perch, confirming something was going to happen there.
Above the ring were two contracts. The first two men to snag a contract would come back for a bout to determine the first Wrestling Society X champion.
The notes get a bit fuzzy here because not everyone was announced over the mic -hopefully one of the loud fans in attendance will send in a report with all the names.
PJ Polaco, Teddy Hart, Vampiro, 6pac, Puma, Luke, a dyed blond guy, a guy in grey, a guy in black and a guy who sorta' looked like Tank Abbot with a thin ponytail.
Puma went through a table and was out.
Luke went through the high voltage box.
The guy in grey went through a table, thanks to New Jack's leap from the above mentioned perch.
The guy in black brought in a pail full of thumbtacks. Those thumbtacks ended up in his backside before he ended up tossed over the top rope onto the chain link trampoline. The guy seemed legit knocked out after he landed.
6pac climbed a ladder to snag the first contract. Vampiro ended up with the second.
There was a lot of post match action with Vampiro and 6pac getting a head start on the next taping by going at it in the ring. Polaco came back and joined in the fray.
While this was going on in ring, Black Label Society was setting up again. When the ring finally cleared, Vampiro was left alone with the mic and the ring announcer (Fabian??) Vampiro thanked us for coming out and said this was the start of something big. He thanked Big Vision, MTV and the other people responsible for putting on the show.
Black Label Society played a final song. Teddy Hart came out and thanked the fans. He said the "top guys" should take note that there was a lot of new talent out there. He said Wrestling Society X would always entertain the fans and not rip them off like the other promotions. Another aside, this was my first time seeing Teddy live too though I've read countless stories. It seemed that the ring vets did a good job of keeping him away from his fabled antics.
That was pretty much the end of the tapings. Vampiro walked the ring, greeting fans, shaking hands and telling us "thanks". Teddy did the same, stopping to pose for pics.
