I torrented the debut episode of MTV's "wrestling society x" last night. It was... interesting to say the least.
It was a half-hour and SUPER fast paced. Kinda cool, the ring looks dirty, no aprons, the venue looks like some "underground" fight club kind of thing.
Zakk Wylde's BLack Label Society played a song to start (MTV), then Zakk joined the commentary, which was pretty much over the top and constantly "OH MY GOD." Zakk was actuallly cool on commentary.
The ring announcer is so insanely over-the-top, I love it. The first match was Jack Evans vs "cocky heel" Matt Sydal. Basically a spot-fest for three and a half minutes but it was wild. The crowd seemed split between wrestling fans and folks who were cheering who they were told to cheer.
THere was a neat graphical touch. When a wrestler would enter, it would freeze-frame and then show their name, hometown, finisher and titles held in other feds. It's a nice homage... and you know I have to give them props for saying things like "This is one of the best independent wrestlers" and really selling that these are guys who are awesome, you've just never seen them.
The main event was a 10 man battle royale/ladder match. Over the top rope until four men remain, than ladders came into play. The first two men to get the contracts hanging from the ceiling would wrestle for the WSX title next week.
This is where it got a bit silly. The ring was surrounded by not only tables, but heavily gimmicked boxes with "electrical wiring" and when a dude crashed into said box, all this pyro went off.
But you know it was a cool match. Vampiro and 6Pac won, wrestling next week. They were definitely the biggest stars on the show. Teddy Hart, New Jack, Sydal, Evans were good.
If they can do less CRAZY MTV EDITS and let the matches flow a bit more, I dunno, it was fun. It was a bit silly but it was different. It'll be good exposure for some of the indie talent at least. Who knows if it'll do well at all or more than one "season" but hey.
