Just finished watching TNA Impact from primetime last night. Overall a decent show, absolutely displaying how much TNA NEEDS that second hour every week. They were able to have a couple long-ish matches and get camera time for a lot more of the roster.
Highlights:
-The ongoing Chris Sabin heel turn. He's gone from having ZERO personality to enough to make him interesting. Plus, there aren't enough X-Division heels.
-Joe. Would've liked to see more than a squash of poor Jay Lethal, but he's still Joe... his attack on Angle at the end was awesome.
-Christian/Rhyno was good.
-X-Title match was good, if short. Some unique spots. Have to question hot-shotting the X title from Sabin to Styles to Daniels within three weeks though.
-Naturals/Team 3-D was a good, if short, tables match. Great heel work by The Naturals, Shane Douglas taking the table for his team? Awesome.
-Nash/Shelley/Starr are always humour. We didn't need to see Nash's backside though.
-Angle/Abyss was a great match! But...
Lowlights
-Abyss needs to quit TNA, seriously. First of all, he goes into the tacks every other match. The crowd doesn't even react anymore. He gets killed every week only to lose his big matches. And even though we all know he's got no chance of taking the belt from Sting... WHY did he tap out clean three days before his title match? Yeah, it was to Angle, but that's brutal booking. Abyss should NEVER tap out first of all. It absolutely kills him. Nobody buys Abyss as a threat anymore thanks to their shoddy booking of him. He's a great big man, he needs to go elsewhere. He'll never be a top guy in TNA, just a jobber to the stars.
-Voodoo Kin Mafia? First of all, The James Gang was working fine. Second of all, ENOUGH. TNA? ENOUGH of the WWE referencing. Enough of the "smark mark" (BLEEP). All TNA accomplishes by reminding people about WWE and the new D-X is... probably reminding people that WWE is on and D-X is back! TNA needs to stop, immediately, any and all WWE referencings and just focus on being the best fed they can be. They're trying to have the original D-X invading WCW vibe, or the old ECW "rebel" vibe, but they DON'T have it. They still barely have their identity.
-I love LAX. The flag burning however should have been threatened 'in-ring.' And while I like Petey Williams face turn by refusing to burn the flag... we're talking about the captain of Team Canada for the past several years of TNA history. He gave a reason for not burning the flag, but for him to say "over my dead body!' about the burning is overdoing it.
-Abyss getting jobbed three days before his title shot.
-Don West & Mike Tenay over-selling EVERYTHING. They're just so over-the-top and irritating on commentary. I can't stand it.
So another episode of TNA goes by, and while I will continue to check them out in hopes of good stuff, they do so much crap that boggles my mind it's hard to really back them. And that's TNA's biggest problem. THey don't have the fervent fan loyalty of an ECW or WCW... and they don't give me a reason to really get emotionally involved, because they screw up as much as they do right.
