While I am disappointed that Edmonton wasn't able to grab the Cup, I am not unhappy with this playoff run.
I'll be straight, at the end of the regular season, I was thinking "Detroit, hunh? Well, it'd be nice if we could advance past them."
For us to get past the second round, where we were down 2-0, and decided to win four in a row? I was exstatic.
When Roloson got injured in game one of this series, I was thinking we'd be doomed without our star goaltender.
We made it to Game Seven of the Stanley Cup finals, and that's huge for the team that was fortunate to make the playoffs.
Good job, Oilers!

I'm not going to sit here and say "Well, we played hard it's okay." I bet the Oilers don't feel that it's good.
It was an exciting run, disappointing finish, but what a great playoff year. Sad for my Oilers. Congrats to the Hurricanes for winning a cleanly contested cup final. I don't think there was a single fight, just good hockey.

I said in the playoff prediction thread that Carolina was one of the teams I'd like to see win if the Oilers couldn't. So congratulations. Glen Wesley desverves to hold the Stanley Cup, considering how long he's been in the league, and how close he's come before.
But man, did I want to see the Oilers win. Nothing's going to take that sting away.
Except maybe a 2007 post season run? All these extra home playoff games means more money for the future (sign Samsonov dammit!!)

If they let Samsonov go they could end up like the Bruins!

Um... Samsonov did exactly two things to help Edmonton get this far: Jack and shit. And shit left town.
Seriously. He is not a key piece of the puzzle that they need to retain. Pisani, Horcoff, Pronger, Peca, Stoll, Moreau, Torres, Roloson, Markkannen, that's the core they need. Kudos to Peca for stepping up big time in the play-offs, especially in this final series, after a sub-par year. He was really instrumental in Edmonton's game 5 and 6 wins, even if he didn't always get the assists. He just worked SO hard.
