[ We open outside of a gym. Standing near the door is Dez Carter. He is wiping sweat from his face and looks pretty haggard. His duffle bag is slung over his shoulder. He walks over to a bench and sits down with a heavy dump. Dez places the bag beside him and turns towards the camera.]
DC: I've been through a lot of hard things in my career. I've been beaten by some of the toughest men in this business. Chopped until my chest was raw and blood vessels popped. Kicked so hard in the spine that my back went numb. I've taken enough head drops that I'm surprised my brain isn't gone.
I'm facing a new beast at Cold Snap. Something that I've never been apart of before. I've done shot fights and my share of barbed wire but this is totally different. I'm entering a match with not just one opponent... But Six. Six men who want to win. This is different from a battle royal. In this match, first pin or submission wins the contest. So you need to have eyes everywhere to watch the action. It's not like a one on one where you beat your opponent. It's not like being thrown over the rope. You have no control over what happens in this style of match.
Each of us want to win for different reasons. The new guys want to make a strong impression. What better way to impress than to win on PPV? Then there's the veterans. Guys like myself who have been around a while and need that boost. That one win to propel us to the upper stratosphere of NAPW. I've been thinking about this for a long time. Ever since the match was announced I've tried to come up with a plan. Some sort of strategy for victory. The truth is there is no clear strategy. I just have to go out there, wrestle at the best level I can, and hope I get the first pin.
[ Dez reaches inside his bag and pulls out a bottled water. He unscrews the cap and takes a long pull.]
DC: Six men enter this match and only one can win. Which one of us will have luck on our side? It doesn't matter whose ability is better in this match. Previous accomplishments mean nothing. Whoever is in the right place at the right time will walk out of Cold Snap the victor. That being said I'm fully prepared to give it my all. Get a full shot of my face camera.
[ We pan closer and see the weariness on Dez's face. It looks like he's been through a war already and he hasn't even stepped in the ring yet.]
DC: This is the face of a warrior. I've been training all week to prepare. Get my reflexes in tip top shape because you never know what this match will throw at you. Got to be ready for anything.
Gentlemen, tomorrow is going to be a war. We all want that victory and will stop at no0thing to achieve it. I may not be able to get the first pin but I will promise you this. Which ever one of you comes up against Dez Carter... Is in for the fight or your life. I guarantee you one thing and one thing only. At Cold Snap I'm ready to take it all. My body is fit and my mind is clear. If I don't win? I'll just keep pushing on and wait till my next opportunity. But one thing is for sure... I won't be the one being pinned!
