:inside the kingdom of rats, the lord of pain rules over all. we find ourselves in a long abandoned dump and the rotted smell hits us like a ton of bricks. the ground underneath our feet is comprised of mud and filth and it sucks eagerly at our shoes. smashed cars stacked one on top of each other make crude walls that loom over us giving us a claustrophobic feel. they look ready to fall atop of us at any moment. we turn a corner and find ourselves in a small clearing. we see we're not alone either as a group of people are giving us a look of utter despair. three men in dirty clothing are crowded around a fire burning in an oil drum in an attempt to stay warm. we see women with young children digging through the mountains of trash looking for food or clothing. we have entered a place where hope and love are long forgotten ideas. from the very shadows a huge man suddenly emerges and looks at us with contempt.:
man - welcome to our home. please...follow me.
:the man before us is dressed in a long dark coat that is caked with dirt and grease. his jeans are likewise covered in filth and his once white tee shirt is now a ragged piece of clothing. he looks over his shoulder at us and we notice that a leather mask covers his face. something about the mask makes our skin crawl and we try not to stare. only his eyes are visible to us and we notice that one eye is a brilliant blue in color while the other is a muddy brown. the mask covers the rest of the mans face. long black nappy hair falls across the face of this odd an and past his broad shoulders. we enter another small clearing and see that an old lazy boy recliner is situated atop a mound of garbage: he takes a seat in his throne and looks at us as we try to find a semi clean place to sit.:
misery - i am misery and you have been welcomed into my domain. the only reason you're here is because i need someone who will spread my gospel. the gospel of misery. all around you are the people that polite society has forgotten about. the homeless. the crack addicts. the women who sell their bodies or the bodies of their own children for money. these are my people. my followers in a crusade for change. for far to long people have ignored them, turned their eyes away from them and cast them out. why? because they didn't fit into society's idea of beauty? because they didn't have high paying jobs? maybe they were cast out because they reminded the beautiful people of what they could become.
:a rat scampers onto the shoulders of misery but he seems not to notice. this is his world.:
misery - in order to spread my gospel i needed to come to napw. i needed to find a place where souls were lost. people i could save. the people in napw are in desperate need for a savior and i am the one who will bring them back from the brink of self destruction. they will bow at my feet and worship me. just like all the others. my first task is to save not one person. but three. moose, cook and the oddly named death. i'm here to save them from a life of pain and hopelessness. i've watched these men from afar and i know that they need me. i've seen all of them proclaim themselves as stars. stars however often fall from the sky. cook, moose and even death will become the first in what will be a cleansing of napws soul. i will offer each of them my hand in an effort to save him. but if they allows their pride to ignore my offer at salvation...then he will suffer. suffer as they could never imagine.
:more rats emerge from the dark and cluster around misery who ignores them.:
misery - i am on a holy mission. a mission to retake a world that has cast myself and my people out. it is up to my three opponents to decide if they're one of the beautiful people...or one on my people. you can either take their rightful place here in my domain or they can foolishly try and stop my crusade. for anyone who stands in my path i can only mourn your pathetic attempts to stop what is right. i do not care what others think of me. i do not care about titles nor fame. i care about my message and the salvation of my people. for those who try and stop me...they will learn that i can be kind. or i can be the monster under your bed.
:misery makes a gesture with his hand and the camera shakes violently. we hear a mad scramble of voices and then a loud scream. misery rises from his throne and makes his way over to us.:
misery - i think it's time that i show you that misery loves company.
:misery pulls out a leather mask much like his own from inside his coat. he places it over our face and we begin to hyperventilate.:
misery - do not worry moose, cook, death...i have a mask for all of you.
:misery looks over his shoulder at a small frightened boy:
misery - bring me my tools.....
